The Theatre Museum
Through both cultural preservation and theater arts education programs, the Theatre Museum works to preserve, protect, and perpetuate awareness and appreciation of the history of theater and its influence on social as well as performance history.
In-school programs: The Theatre Museum arranges residencies for theater professionals in New York City schools and for community-based organizations. Students, faculty, and artists-in-residence create original dramatic plays or musicals that are ultimately performed for the entire school and for the community as well. The Theatre Museum also offers short-term residencies such as playwriting, song writing, creative drama and improvisation, or movement and dance, along with design workshops for costumes and sets. (Grades K–12; $)
Professional development: The Theater Arts in the Curriculum introduces techniques for integrating performance within the classroom that may be applied in multiple disciplines, including history and social studies. (For teachers of grades 5–12; $)
Additional resources: The seminar series The Theatre: Then and Now examines the history of theater.
